I think Étoilé packages are missing in Debian and derivatives. And
GNUstep packages are only GCC-based. So I can only compile these things
by hand or use the VM. I will try. Thank you for the advice about not
using GCC.

A VM is a good way to experiment but I am considering using Étoilé as
the main desktop not in a VM. Is Étoilé easier to run on the BSD for
some reason or it is a historical preference? I would try to package
Étoilé for my distribution, but I should make use of past success or
failure stories for this, and I didn't find them anywhere.
