Étoilé is more a development platform as it stands now. We have some core 
frameworks still actively developed or maintened, but user-oriented stuff is 
not maintened currently and is planned to be rewritten in the future.

FreeBSD and Linux are the two systems we have been supporting from the 
beginning. We just happen to have Étoilé packages on FreeBSD, since David is 
maintaining them along with GNUstep packages iirc.
