I just finished this morning building a fairly full-featured Gentoo
system*. I started it on May 4th, right after Jack and Vladimir's
Gentoo talk, so call it four weeks. My CPU is a Celeron 466 MHz w/
512 Mb of RAM and 5200 RPM disk drive. I had to do it three times
before I got it right: the first one took a week or so, the second one
only went for a couple of days before I realized I should start over
again, and the last one was delayed by my travelling. If I had been
there all the time, and if I had not made one crucial mistake, it
would have been less than two weeks. That little KDE problem that I
asked the group for help on a few days ago stopped progress for a
couple of days too.

So if you want to build Gentoo, either get a real fast box or plan to
wait a while.
