A friend of mine had the same problem with zero wiping.  As near as we can figure it 
(this is just a guess) we figure that part of the design of the harddrive is to have 
some of it's bios stored on its disk, because disk space is cheaper that rom space.  
What I think happens in these situations is that you deleted the hard drives internal 
bios.
 
btw: what type of hard drive was that?
