N\Mandrake 9.1 defaults to grub bootloader. If you can't get root

When you get to the first screen that offers you a chance to make a choice
press the help key which I believe is F1 key. It will direct you to the
rescue mode, which I think is the F4 key. This screen if followed should get
you to a menu screen that should allow you single user mode access or
directly to change root password. I forget the details.

I believe if you boot with grub, edit the command line (it's an option during boot) and put a one at the end of the command line, it boots you into runlevel one, logged in as root.

Change the password, reboot.

Unless, of course, grub requires a password to boot.
