As for Allen's last statement there... I resemble that
statement. A few hundred extra Mhz never hurt anybody :-)
That's all,
Mr O.
P.S. Motherboard chipsets are a whole other issue that can be
expounded upon if requested.
The reason Shannon recommended the overclocking sites was
to ensure the mother would run with margin when *not*
overclocked. Hence it would be very reliable. If you
overclock it you have used up that margin. Hence your
reliability will suffer.
I need reliability more than raw speed. (One crash costs
more time than the incremental speed loss from a few MHz
even over the life of the computer. And an unreliable mobo
will crash more than once.)
I don't even remember if all the HW on the mother was supported.
I may or may not be using the on-board sound. The ethernet
is working, but I can't get it to attach to eth1 rather than
eth0. I'm not using the SATA because I don't have a SATA disk.
USB is working.

After getting burned with an unreliable mother (Abit KD7

I followed advice from Shannon Dealey and perused the
overclocking
web sites. From there I selected a Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2. I
also selected RAM from that site. Works great. Of course I
don't overclock. I leave that to children.
