Well, I tried to edit that file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and A) the monitor was IDed as an "IBM G78" not a CTX and B) there were no pre-existing mentions or values for the Horizontal or Vertical refresh rates only the resolution settings for the video card and the monitor. What now? I'm going to pound some ground for a few to determine if anyone else has had this issue and what they may have done to cure it. IDK maybe this thing has IBM guts or something silly like that. Anywho further assistance is appreciated, sorry you guys are my first stop, but hey I know you guys to be fairly knowledable so...

Fork over the exact model of that 17" CTX. With that information and a little help from Google you can get the exact capabilities of the monitor and edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf to reflect that capabilities. FWIW, CTX VL701-1 has: Horizontal: 30-72kHz Vertical: 50-160Hz with 1024x768 being the recommended resolution (1280x1024 max) Control+Alt+F2, log in and follow along; sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf , find the lines under monitor and set Horizsync to 30.0-72.0 and VertRefresh to 50.0-160.0. Go down further to modelines and make sure 1024x768 is the highest. Delete 1280x1024 or higher of every line. Save, exit, Alt+F7 to the broken Xsession, Control+Alt+Backspace to kill it. It should restart. If not type 'startx'. > On 5/27/07, [EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I think my monitor is possessed.
