I found this position to be quite challenging (too much so). But I think someone with a more solid Linux background and PHP programming skills would do quite well at Bike Friday.

IT Manager - Bike Friday, Eugene, Oregon

This key position at Bike Friday has overall responsibility for the technological infrastructure for the company. This includes 4 in house servers (Linux), two off site hosted web servers (Linux) and 30 or so Windows desktops. The company has a thin client network in two production lines, several secure wireless access points, multiple network printers/fax machines and a wide mix of types of hardware and/or operating systems in support of 45 employees.

You should have some or all of the below skills/background to be considered for this position:

-The Right Attitude

-PHP programming skills
-Database skills
-Linux Server Administration
-Visual Basic for MS Access
-hardware maintenance


The overall environment includes Linux RH, Fedora Core, postgreSQL, Apache, Samba, some mySQL, Windows 2k & XP (a couple Win98 boxes are still around), MS Access as application front end, CUPS, backup/restore of tar balls, postfix email, LTSP (Linux Terminal Services Project), drupal (web site content management), more....

This position is on call 24/7 but fortunately emergencies are few and far between. There is support available from a 3rd party for server related issues and if required adequate funds for solving problems.
