Make that "X5" rather than "W5". WP 9.0 for Linux is a non-starter. It's a port to WINE and never got a single update. It's got show stopper bugs. Version 8.0 is the last version developed by the former WordPerfect Corp. developers. (Corel pink-slipped all of the former WordPerfect Corp. engineers in early 1999.) Version 8.1 was largely a quick updating done by Corel engineers to test the market again a few years later. It shipped with some extra fonts and clipart plus a very few bug fixes. There was no free distribution of this version. Version 8.0 was the most widely distributed, with some 20 million copies distributed along with Corel Linux, both as free bonus software distributed with hardware by one of the big east Asian hardware distributors. (Don't remember which one.) This version was also a free download and is still fairly widely available. You might have to look around for patches. It looks as though all of the WP 8 for Linux stuff has been removed from Corel's FTP site. > So there probably isn't any official answer to your question. OpenOffice would probably run like molasses on that machine. It's a real resource hog. Plus it's right in there with MS Office in terms of productivity for complex documents, way, way slower than WordPerfect when it comes to getting complex things done.
