Actually, it looks like range improvement could be significant.

Yup, you aren't familiar with a Sparrow.  The seat is a 2" thick pad over 
the battery box cover.  The suspension is already quite stiff - you feel 
every bump on the road.  It only has 5" or so of clearance now. (I have 
trouble getting my floor jack under the center.)
