Some EV hobbyists would rather put their money into tire-burning batteries,
controllers, and motors than into safely isolated chargers.

There are several people on this list who call me an alarmist, and they may
be right. But I'm concerned that every non-isolated charger installed in an
EV increases the risk of a tragic event, like the electrocution of a young
child.

If that were to happen, apart from the awful nature of the death, it would
be a significant setback for EVs in general. It would be one more point for
the anti-EV lobby to use in building fear of EVs -- how many of us have had
people ask "Don't you get shocked when it rains?". Such an event could
easily result in legislation negatively affecting hobbyist EVs, at least in
some areas.

For the sake of everyone's safety, including your own: if you elect to use a
nonisolated charger, such as a BC-20 or one of Rich's high-power PFC models,
please add an isolation transformer. Or wait until Rich develops an
isolated model.
