I use an isolated charger so grounding the EV to earth isn't really an
issue, but, as far as ground fault from the batteries to the frame of
the car, I'm clear - no ground fault whatsoever. I check it every time
I water my batts. Zip. Zero. None. I've got pretty darn clean
floodies in plastic boxes sitting in their metal frames, double
contactors, the works. I also use a big ol' Lester ferro charger which
is nicely isolated. When I get myself a PFC20 I will most certainly
ground whatever EV I have then to earth and use a GFI, it makes sense.
If it is tripping there is a problem which needs to be corrected. Be
safe! I may not take this quite as far as you David, but I agree with
most of what you are saying. Electrical safety is a good thing! Like
you I'm not taking that chance.
