Yeah the Lectra use to use them (an electric motorcycle).  I don't know
about the efficiency though, I wasn't impressed with the numbers I saw for
it.

As I recall they also have a problem with cogging unless you spin them
really fast...in which case you need a high ratio reduction (transmission).
The weight and expense of the motor/transmission combo eliminated most of
the advantages.

I think you would be better off using an E-tek motor and suitable controller
(cheaper, same or better efficiency, smaller and lighter, possibly more
powerful).

I'm not sure about the more powerful though, NEDRA lists one or two records
using modified Lectra motor/controllers in cycles and gocart(s).
