I agree. Mostly collecting such info is harmless but, once it's collected, it can be misused.
It would be better if they collected more sanitized information. For example, rather than recording GPS coordinates, they could compute and record distances (not vectors with directions), acceleration, braking, speed, current state of charge, and other things that would help them build cars to meet people's driving habits. Maybe consumers, the ACLU, and other organizations can push for something like this. I could give a shit if I pass 4 gas stations and run out of gas, thats my problem, not some car company that wants to use the info as a "in your face" tactic for a response in one way or another. My cell phone is so old that "they" couldnt trace it unless I was talking to "them" to begin with. All my vehicles have Gen 1 gps, its a friggen map . The so called black boxes are in all new cars now, one more way to have big brother watching your every move if they choose to .
