The Wilderness EV site I looked at shows a 120V kit with 6.7" series DC motor
(looks like D&D) and 400A peak controller for about $4600. I doubt you can
get 90 HP out of that small motor very reliably, and you certainly can't get
90 HP out of the controller. A 5000 lb vehicle would be very underpowered
with it. Their 144V kit uses an FB4001 9" motor and 400A peak controller.
If you don't care about how long it takes you to get to highway speeds the
latter would eventually get you there. If you used 12 12V batteries for
nominal 144V you might get sag to around 135V with 400A current, or about 72
HP. Figure around 20% power loss in the motor and controller and that
leaves about 58 HP.

In reality, if you want a car that performs more like a typical ice powered
car, you will have to spend more money and purchase a higher power
controller like a Zilla or Evnetics for the FB4001 motor, or better, use a
WarP9 motor.

To get an ev that meets your satisfaction usually requires a lot more
homework. Lots of time searching suppliers for different components
available, reading about conversions on the evalbum and on blogs as well as
here and diyelectriccar, to educate yourself on what kind of performance to
expect from given components for a given car. You will end up with
something you can drive with the above kits after a lot of custom work on
the adapter, motor brackets, and additional parts like vacuum pump for
vacuum assist brakes, but it will be an arduous process with mediocre
performance in the end.

Also, people can't help you much if you don't inform them of what kind of
performance you want, meaning how far do you want to go, how fast, what 0 to
60 mph time, etc. If you spend on the order of $5000 plus battery cost, and
use lead acid batteries, expect large 0 to 60 mph time and short range (< 40
miles, and that is in warm weather when the batteries are new). That's fine
with some folks, who for example have a 20 mile or so round trip commute on
secondary roads, so such a kit will work for them. If you dream of dusting
young guys in their ice vehicles off the line at a traffic light, expect to
pay more.
