NiMh is still commonly used in handheld radios. Lithium is being switched to for may of them, but mostly because of weight, not necessarily other advantages. It seems like for cars, lithium has a big weight advantage, so kind of makes NiMh not as important any more. It's a shame that it took us 20 years to come up with lithium as a competitor to lead acid for EV's, when we could have started getting getting into good factory EV's 20 years ago if ovonics hadn't sold the patent.
