There were some nice Power vs Energy density figures awhile back for the
various battery types. Most resembled fat right parenthesis ")"s as
battery energy was traded for power and vice versa. The lithium ion
curves have evidently shifted to greater power and energy levels. Lead
Acid was in toward the (0,0) corner.
It was either DOE or the ABC (battery consortium) that put together some
circle diagrams where each spoke addressed a characteristic about a
battery. One spoke was safety, another cycle life, another $/kwhr,
etc. A standard was set for each characteristic and a red line
connected the battery performance points relative to the goal for that
standard. If the battery had a high potential to ignite, the point was
in toward the center to zero. If low, the red line could be out away
from the center. If the battery met all the goals, the red line was out
away from the goal line. It was a quick way to visually see how well
the battery was performing.
The recent link to the Jeff Dahn video on battery testing indicated that
different battery electrolytes could dramatically change the energy
density and cycle life.
With the rapid pace of development and new tools for measuring battery
performance, any chart could become outdated quickly.
As is often said here: "There are lies, damn lies, and battery
statistics." Who did the testing? Were they objective or were they
more interested in helping the manufacturer sell batteries?
If you really want to know a battery, you have to test it, work with it,
and try it out in your application. Does it work for you?
Welcome to a Smorgasbord of battery types and info.

Is there a chart that shows all batteries types and the number of cycles,
enegery density, heat runaway,etc.
I guess theres something called MCM lin min ???
they seem to be a lttle cheaper than lifeo4 but the voltage far off a
lttle faster ..
