My feeling/opinion on the thread's original question may differ from most members. Because, each time when I search the news wire multiple times a day, I see a huge amount of con-tesla, and only a few pro-tesla items. Many are stock/investment related so, I rarely post those (decades ago evdl members voted to not have evdl bandwidth used for stock discussions, etc.).
IMHO, Musk hasn't achieved the goal he stated, he set Tesla to reach yet. Automakers are making lots of noise, but really hardly anything to compete with Tesla, while at the same time, (same koch bros) in the background, automakers are spending a lot of effort, time, money to stop/curb/foil Tesla every which way they can. Its when automakers are actually trying to sell EVs that can actually compete with Tesla, is when musk can/will back off, allowing others to run Tesla or let them sell it off (?to apple?).
