Noise is "pleasure" to some people. However, let me point out that millions of people go skiing or [snowboard] riding. I've never heard a complaint that their skis or boards don't roar ! I think, given a chance, many people would adjust to preferring the silence, gliding stealthily through the forests or fields.

They are out there..  I have a 30 year old son who is a "car guy" that firmly 
believes that real cars are LOUD!  The louder the better - both engine noise and stereo.
