A NEMA 14-50 is always the better choice, IMHO. It allows you options, while a direct connection leaves no options for a failed charger, a visitor with different charging needs, you can take your charger with you... The list goes on.If you don't do the installation of the 14-50 properly, loose connections may cause you headaches, but that is also true of direct connection of the EV charger, and you can't simply unplug the faulty charger and swap a replacement without calling an electrician and waiting for several days. Or if you are so inclined, you can unplug the faulty charger and tighten up the connections. I would HIGHLY suggest that you get an upgrade for your 14-50 cord cap ("plug" for you non-electricians :-) ) that has a handle that allows an ordinary person to safely pull out and plug in the 14-50 without being tempted to wrap your fingers around the sides and touch the liave prongs.
