Well, nothing is perfectly "safe". LFP is safer than ternary lithium. Lead-acid 
is safer than LFP. It's all relative. Any battery can burst, spew toxic 
chemicals or gases, start a fire, etc. You just have the know the potential 
failure modes, and allow for them in your design.

Consider how dangerous and toxic gasoline is! Yet people think nothing about 
driving around with gallons of the stuff!
