Hi Eva,

Several of our libraries are using pickup lockers now. We created a new
Organization Type for them underneath the Branch type mainly to make it
easier to run statistics on them, but you could create them as "Branch"
level orgs as well. The level can be set up either way depending on what
works best for you. To make it easy for ourselves, we refer to it in the
short name as well (example ARL-ATH-BL is the Athens Regional Library
System, the Athens Branch, and their Book Locker).

The main thing to think about is that as far as the system knows, the
locker is a separate location entirely (even if it's under the branch in
the org tree). So, there is always going to be a transit from the owning
library to the book locker and it will need to be checked in at the book
locker's org unit in order to be available on the book locker's hold shelf.
If you are using the locker software to do the checkin, you just need to
make sure the SIP connection is set up for the locker's org unit and not
the library's normal org unit.

There are at least 3 different book locker manufacturers that our libraries
are using and their process is a little different for each. Some use the
locker's software for checkin, and some use an Evergreen workstation set up
for the book locker's org unit for checkin.

One other thing to consider is whether or not you want to prioritize holds
as if they are at the same location as the branch they are located at or if
they should be treated as if they are at a remote location. Most of ours
should get treated as if they are at the same branch for the purposes of
hold priority and age protection, so we had to set up Org Unit Proximity
Adjustments for each one.

We use 3 month and 6 month age protection, so we have two entries for each
locker that look like this:

Branch-level (adjusts to same level as parent branch for 3 month age
protection reasons):
- Absolute Adjustment: Yes
- Item Owning Library: ARL-ATH
- Hold Pickup Library: ARL-ATH-BL
- Position: 0
- Proximity Adjustment: 0

System-level (adjusts to one level away from system branch for 6 month age
protection reasons):
- Absolute Adjustment: Yes
- Item Owning Library: ARL
- Hold Pickup Library: ARL-ATH-BL
- Position: 0
- Proximity Adjustment: 1

For your second question about notices - I'm not able to answer that since
we use the Evergreen action triggers to send the notices. All of the book
lockers our libraries are using just have the patron scan their library
card rather than enter a code.

I hope that is helpful,
Terran
