Finally managed to do this after a lot of futzing around with ./configure in the evolution directory. However I'd really prefer to do it via the higher-level jhbuild script if I can figure out how it discovers the NSS libraries, which is far from obvious. There are getting to be too many metalevels (autogen, pkg-config, configure, make, jhbuild, m4 etc.) for the average human to understand :-)
