When you say normal disk usage are you looking at the read/write counter or the Queue Length counter? If your not checking the Queue Length counter check it. If your over 2 you have an issue with the disks? Also what is the controller set at? Write back or write through? Also what else is in your environment? Do you have any SNA or IPX traffic?
To shutdown the store, can you just kill the process or do you get an error? -----Original Message----- From: Matthew Joyce [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, February 08, 2004 11:40 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Exch 2003 slowdowns Importance: High Hi, More problems... Today, many of our users are getting the "requesting data from Microsoft exchange 2003 server" dialog. Why is this ? Exchange 2003 2.4Ghz Xeon, 1gb Ram, 100GB raid. Only 125 users, 100mb max mailbox size. Not much in the way of public folders. GFI Mail Essentials GFI Mail Security Looking at task manager... Store 30-45% GFIScan 15-20% Free 30-50% These would normally be very low, every thing <5% with occasional peak above 10%. I have increased some of the diag logging for IS but nothing is showing up in the event log. This morning I thought I would try restarting Store, but it would not shutdown. (perhaps I was impatient) I ended up restarting the server. MTA and Store did not auto start, I had to manually start them after about 5 mins after the server came back up. It happened again later on, I have perfmon watching a few counters... Nothing or very little in the queues, normal CPU usage, normal disk usage, normal RPC usage, then bam, CPU goes up to previously mentioned levels and RPC Averaged Latency just keep climbing. Keeps climbing (14000 before last reboot.) No one can connect with Outlook and eventually I can't Remote Desktop the machine, and I have reboot the server. I can never shutdown Store.exe when this happened, so I'm thinking that it is waiting for some other process to achieve something or to respond to Stores request and it just never happens. Messages do get processed though, the queues don't really start piling up. any ideas ? any other info I can get to help diagnose this problem. I'm getting grumbles from management, not surprisingly, Monday morning with no email etc. Matt Children's Cancer Institute Australia http://www.ccia.org.au -- _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchange&text_mode=&lang =english To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
