No new Manager, just Spring cleaning. Anyway, Veritas 8.6 does not support Win2K3 so I
have to either upgrade to 9.1 or switch to a different vendor. I will probably stick
with Veritas but I wanted to see what else was out there before committing my budget.
Also, I am changing my procedures anyway because I want to go direct to a NAS and from
there to tape. Currently we backup straight to tape. Im hoping to shave a few minutes
off of my backup time and it would keep the daily backups more "online" than tape.

If you want to change that is fine but in my opinion you already have a fine
solution. I would not change as you would have to change your disaster
recovery procedures, retrain your staff on a new piece of software and its
little quirks, along with still having to support the old one as long as
your tape retention times are. Also the possibility of the new software
interacting with other software that causes headaches. To change just to
change and save a few bucks in the short term would make me think twice.
Something tells me you have a new manager in town.

Heck, I think ntbackup should always be considered along with the 3rd party
products.

No disrespect intended but I did say "viable alternatives"...
Thanks though!

Subject: Windows backup software

Are there any viable alternatives to Veritas and CA for Windows backup
software? Its that time of year again to renew our licensing or switch to
something else. We are currently using Veritas 8.6 and need to got to 9x if
we plan on moving to Win2K3 and Exch2K3. Is there anything else out there?
