I would think yes, if eseutil were unable to read the chk file, it would
barf. 
It could also be that the edb.chk points to an incorrect or corrupted log
file.

We have used this method to remove commited log files before on the server
in question.

If the EDB.chk file was corrupt, I would expect that running  'eseutil /mk
edb.chk, would return an error. Correct?

Differentials do not purge logs, but if they arent being purged after the
full you may have a damaged edb.chk file.

If you feel uncomfortable about these procedures, I would highly recommend
you call PSS to walk you through all of it and remove the .chk file if it is
indeed damaged.

The job is setup as differential Mon-Thurs and Full on Friday.

We don't have a local tape drive. We did try using NT backup loaded on a
WIN2000 server with the Exchange Admin installed. It backed up the data but
did not clear the logs.

We are having a hard time dumping arcserve in this location.

Yea, about 5 years ago before I dumped Arcserve.
Can you do an online backup with NTBACKUP?

Hello,

Exchange 5.5 SP4 on NT 4.0 SP6a ...Arcserve 2000

Arcserve is indicating successful backups. However, the transaction logs are
not being purged. I setup a recovery server and did a restore. Could not get
the store to start because of a corrupt transaction log.

I have no faith that the backups are actually any good. Has anyone seen this
behavoir before and know what the cause may be?
