We usually un-install old version of ScanMail and install a new one.
Upgrading has been funky in our experience.

Coincidentally the most popular advice that we get from Trend support is to
uninstall/reinstall when something goes out of whack.

I have also had strange experiences with the ScanMail installation when the
bootstrap service (called Remote something) can't start because the account
that it is using doesn't have rights to log on as a service. The only
problem is that once the installation is completed (regardless of success)
the bootstrap service is gone. So while the setup GUI was still on, I went
into services, found that bootstrap service and started it manually and
received the "the account ... Has been granted logon as a service right".

Another time installation was failing for me because some temp files from
previous installation didn't get cleaned out. I had to find them and delete
them manually.

Subject: ScanMail Upgrade Problem

I'm trying to upgrade from 3.81 to 3.82 of ScanMail on my Ex5.5 box, with
all service packs for Windows and Exchange installed.

I've stopped all the Trend services and the IS as it recommends in the
Readme. The install program notes that it's an upgrade and says its
installing and starting the services, but when it gets to the end it says
the Installation failed. There is no detailed error, and nothing in the
event log.

The ScanMail install that I have is on drive F:, which may be the problem
since when it connects to the server it uses C$. But I'm running the
install on the actual Exchange server, so you wouldn't think that would be a
problem.

Any advice gratefully received!
