No friggin' way. Veritas wrote NTBACKUP and even that lobotomized product purges the log files.
John, make sure you have the latest version of BackupExec, check the logs, and if the problem silently persists, contact Veritas support. From what I've heard of their response time, you might contact them and get in line first.
