In addition to all the fine remarks: 1. If money is tight, at least give extra time off. 2. This one is hard to word correctly, but it would be a terrific motivator in some companies if the guys doing all the real tech work perceived management as leading in a direction that actually will benefit the whole company, and thus provide more job security and better "stuff" for everybody, rather than management just pusing their own (selfish? Self-aggrandizing?) objectives to the exclusion of others. In other words, everybody should walk the walk, not just talk the talk.
