In testing, the latency times average 56ms, they're all well under 100 ms. Is there anything else I could look for that might hang the Outlook application, or cause it to lock up once it hits the "Outlook is retrieving data" condition?

Outlook has been having an increasing problem with the "Outlook is retrieving data" error message. I know this message is to be expected occasionally, but when the user gets this error message now, it appears to be fatal, and the user has to disconnect and re-establish the VPN connection in order to get back into Exchange. Thoughts on what to try? I'm already trying the little trick w/ an entry in the hosts file, and IM is turned off in Outlook. I'm really more interested in why the issue with Outlook seems to kill VPN connectivity.
