It's done when Exchange 200x detects that someone has attempted to
access one of their public folders (i.e., a PF hosted on an Exchange
200x server) which has been ACL'ed by a DL.

Is the actual promotion from UDG to USG done after the Exchange 5.5
organization has been removed and only the 2003 environment exists?

Thanks,

Nathan

Both ADC and Exchange without ADC will promote DL/DG's to SG's when
necessary.

ADC, when it does it's first full replication, will create the DG's and
those it finds being used as ACLs on PFs will be promoted as necessary
to SGs.

Automagic is how I understand it at the moment.

If I can understand how it does this, then I will be more confident of
that aspect in the migration. I know it does it, but I have not been
able to read how, when, who, what etc. of the special relationship a 5.5
DL with ACL's has with ADC?

Exchange (or ADC, more likely) automagically promotes them.

We are in the process of migrating 5.5 to 2003, in a 2000 AD that has
been running for many years.

It is my understanding that PFs that use DLs for ACL permissions will
not become UDG but become USG, to maintain the security permissions.

How do DLs, used in Public Folder ACL's, become USGs instead of UDGs?

Thanks,

Nathan
