Michael,

I wish to thank you, Ed and Chris for providing some good pointers.

Actually we don't want to use MIIS. That will add unnecessary complications. His branch should be a sub-domain in our AD forest. He is resisting it because he wants to have full control on IT decisions.

Ultimately the decision will be made by higher ups. I just did not want this guy to have "technical excuse" for his "political goals". Now I am well armed for the upcoming conference call.

Jay

To add to what Ed said - there are truly huge organizations running Exchange across multiple forests, or using an Exchange-only forest with appropriate trusts for user access to mailboxes.

I would probably investigate tools such as MIIS for this.

You can access white papers at microsoft.com/exchange that discuss these
techniques.

While I realize that it's difficult/impossible to prove the negative - I
would ask this administrator to document the SOURCE of his concerns. I
suspect you'll find it's political.

mind

We only have a conceptual or planning problem, and that too due to
cynical nature of an administrator at a remote location.

Currently we have an Exch 5.5 organization with that remote location
being a site in it, though in a different NT domain. Total users in the
AD forest will be between 1000 and 2000. Though there are many remote
sites, all are connected via T1. The location in question has less than
200 mailboxes.

We are about to migrate to Exchange 2003. That administrator does not
want to stay in our Exchange organization and says: "We would have
tremendous AD synchronization, AD forest issues and potential joint
Exchange corruption."

Can you guys refer us to some articles or studies showing that his
apprehensions are misplaced? Thanks so much.
