"Once per address per out-of-office period" applies only to the Out of
Office reply text. All rules fire for each message. Period. You can take
that to the bank. Some people make the mistake of thinking they need to
augment their Out of Office message with a reply rule and end up annoying
everyone.

I'm referring to a mailbox, not public folder. Also, I'm going to test
later to see if the server side rule for automatic replies is 'smart'
like OoO where it only replies once per address per 14 hour period.
Thanks.

Josh references an article regarding "Server Side Rules" and Public Folders.
I do not believe the OoO works on Pub folders...

Yeah, but that's not an Out of Office. The risk of a loop from an Out of
Office without a rule is small because the Out of Office message is sent
only once to each sender. Add a rule to the Out of Office, however, and you
might have a problem because the rules, whether added in Out of Office or
the Rules Wizard, fire for all messages.

Scenario:
- Public Folder (PF) has a rule to reply to EVERY mail received with a
"Thank you".
- A message is received by that PF from an automailer.
- The PF sends a "Thank You" to the automailer.
- The Automailer doesn't accept messages.
- The Automailer sends a message (via server) that messages are not
accepted.
- The PF receives the message from the server telling it that Messages are
not accepted.
- The PF sends a "Thank You" to the server message.
- The Server message sends a message that messages are not accepted.
- The PF receives the message and sends a "Thank you"...
- etc.

I know this is a boring topic but does this MS KB article still carry the
looping danger? http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=291956 It doesn't
reference any dangers of looping conditions. I seem to remember reading on
slipstick somewhere (cant' find it now) that server auto-replies function
similar to OOO in that they won't reply to every message from a sender but
only once every 24 hour period. Is this true?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA: To work around this issue, divide your Exchange Server
5.5 organization into multiple Exchange 2000 or Exchange Server 2003
organizations. In this scenario, because these message settings are
organization-wide settings, you must use more than one Active Directory
directory service forest.

That's just silly right there.

Since my ChooseFrom debacle, I've been very hesitant about ivasoft -- the
developer doesn't seem to respond to queries and/or problems.

Hi Everyone,

We've recently opened OoO replies to the internet. Is there any way to
block this on a user basis? Thanks for any info.
