You are correct regarding OWA access- it opens docs in a flash. To check the issue of referring back to an admin point I will re-install office from a CD - its definitely worth a try.

If the user opens up the same message via OWA I will bet you a fish taco it will be instantaneous, which leads me to belive it is the admin install and some sort of network drive connection timeout, DNS resoultion or similar. Link speed is 1.5M/256k. The file is small (50Kb or so) and can take 30 secs to open. The problem is isolated to one or 2 users in an office and office 2003 was rolled out using a centralised administrative point so all users should have the same settings. All users are set to download full message. He then called me up (over the same line) to complain that the e-mail wasn't opening up and that the server must be down because he just lost the connection. It could also be that your LAN - broadband connection is a bottleneck, depending on how many users are accessing data on your servers.
