Wow. Like I have never heard that before. I think I will show it to my
children and prove to them that people do not ever grow up...or change, and
to expect this type of behavior even into adulthood.
Thank you.

client to single
mailbox protocol. Perhaps you might want to read the
relevant Internet
RFC to better understand how it works and why it won't
do what you want.

The reason this works for MAPI is because the
protocol supports the
redirection. That is, the client connects to the
old server, and it
notifies the client, through supported protocol
elements, that the
location has changed. Then the client updates itself
and contacts the
correct server.

Exchange is not designed, and has

of a front-end server came along.
This is what it is specifically
supposed to do. If you want that
function, then buy the box. If you can
live without it, then it's your
choice. Or quit using such a limitied
protocol. POP is about as basic
(stupid) as a protocol can be. Of
course, if you had read the RFC,
you'd have known that.

Whining

Exchange
2003
environment

Hi,

We
recently
upgraded to AD 2003 and added
a new Exchange 2003
server
and
we are slowly moving each user (less
than
300) from the
old 2000
Exchange server.
Everything works flawlessly
with
the exception
of
users getting access to POP3 mail once
they are on
the
new Exchange 2003
server. The outside
world
sees our internal pop3 as
mail.domain.com
and
that is setup
on 300 different locations that rely
on
pop3
access.

I do
have
POP3 enabled on both servers. SP1 is in place.

This
is
under
one e-mail orginization and one domain,
one
forest.
Every other
function of e-mail
between groups in
this orginization works
great.
All
POP3 and SMTP is being
routed to the original 2000
exchange
server
and
then
distributed
from
there.

When I try to access e-mail
via pop3 with a user
on
the
new
server I get an error
message that the
user
is unknown...I find
this
interesting because as
one
e-mail
orginization, it should see every
user
as long as
POP3
is
enabled.

The goal is to move
all users to
the new Exchange server and
then
remove
the old exchange
server from the environment.
Until then, I
need POP3
to
come into a single
point and see both servers
or
correctly
route
throughout the
e-mail
orginization.

Thank
you,

Terry&
lt;b
r>

_____________________________________
____
__
______________________
List
posting
FAQ:
http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm
Web
Interface:
http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=exchange
To
subscri
be:
http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/
To
u
nsub
scribe
send
