The bounce appears to indicate that you're trying to send to
[EMAIL PROTECTED], right? First, is the machine looking to a DNS
server that can resolve asmail.udcavis.edu's MX record? If you can't use
DNS for this, you can create an SMTP Connector for your ucdavis domains, add
an address space of *.ucdavis.com, and point it to your internal SMTP
routing host by specifying a smart host. Also, check your recipient policy
to ensure that you don't have asmail.ucdavis.edu configured such that
Exchange thinks it's responsible for all main for the domain. Unless you
have some way to route specific mailboxes to Exchange, you might need it to
have a different domain, such as exchmail.udcavis.edu.

Thanks. That solved problem 1. Problem 2 still exists.
