My understanding is there are no plans to migrate the users from the
newly acquired forest into the "main" forest. My recommendation would
then likely be for the main forest to have AD accounts with mailboxes,
and the other forest can just use them. Kinda what I thought initially.

Thanks!

Either way.

In either case, the Exchange forest must have a user account for the
mailbox, but it can be disabled and not used except as a placeholder.
With a trust, the user's home forest account can be granted Send As
rights on the mailbox's user account, and Full Mailbox Rights on the
mailbox itself.

Myself, I prefer to migrate the accounts before the mailboxes, or at the
same time, but you don't have to do it that way.

I just got a question dropped on me. A client has acquired another
company, and established a trust between the two forests. The client
would like the users in the newly acquired forest to use the clients'
Exchange server. When they (the new users) access the clients Exchange
box, is their windows credentials enough, or will they need AD accounts
in the "main" forest?

So if this is common stuff. I've never done a cross forest
implementation before.
