I'm trying to troubleshoot a fairly bizarre problem with my mail server.
There are a half-dozen senders whose mail comes in to our Exchange
environment garbled. The mail is broken into ~80-character lines, each
terminated by an equals sign, and includes code like =0D=0A (aka CrLf)
when it reaches my users' Outlook 2003/2007 clients. However, the same
message (we've tested from one sender using multiple recipients) arrives
at yahoo and gmail accounts correctly formatted.

Here's an example (with some confidential data removed but all the line
lengths identical to the original):

It looks like something to do with an old RFC and I do see references to
"folding" in RFC822 and 2822, but they don't mention the equals sign
being a line continuation character. They also don't mention anything
about CrLf having to be explicitly described by the hex ASCII codes. At
first we thought it was a problem with the senders' mail systems but
that doesn't explain why the same message is coming in correctly to my
yahoo account.

Just for kicks I tried telnetting to the mail server and sending a
message like the above, thinking that maybe whatever RFC was in play
here would cause Exchange to reformat for me, but it didn't happen.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
