Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Go ahead and do it to make sure,
but I as well as others will confirm that you can delete things directly
from your Inbox, or other folders for that matter, without it touching the
Deleted Items folder, thus it cannot be recovered from the Deleted Items,
rather can only be recovered from the folder it was deleted from. That
means you need the reg hack.

Um, I'll have to try this, but I don't think that is correct. I believe
messages are _always_ retained in the IS for the retention period (I don't
care how you delete them). The DumsterAlwaysOn entry allows you to see the
Recover Deleted Items tool in folders other that Deleted Items. That's why
you only need the hack on any machines except the one you recover from.

so if i am in my inbox folder, and hold down the shift key the item in
the
inbox never touches the deleted items folder, it is deleted right from
the
inbox folder, so to recover this you would have to turn dumpster always
on
registry edit ??

No just the workstation you plan to use to recover things.

>>>But I thought anytime
>>>you delete an item it goes to the deleted item folder
>>>anyhow??
Not always...delete this message while holding the shiftkey. Delivering
items to a PST would also be an instance were the message left the IS
without being placed in the deleted items folder.

>>>So in which scenario would it be useful to edit this registry
setting???
If you plan on recovering things that never resided in the deleted items
folder.
