270480 is MSFT-only but I tried 256862, which caused two additional mailboxes to be created after I restarted ADC. Argh.
Got PSS involved and they had me go through the same process as before, with this exception: I removed all Exchange attributes from all the AD userids after I stopped the service. Did the trick.
