If you have the Exchange agent installed in BE, and go into the Backup Selections tab, 
you should see the Directory and Information stores listed separately under your 
Exchange server, along with any disk drives and the selection for the mailboxes. If 
you're not seeing them there then I don't think you have the Exchange Agent installed. 
You don't back them up by selecting the edb files themselves, unless of course you're 
doing an offline backup.

I don't get it.  What gives you the impression I don't know what Circular
Logging is?  Just because I have it turned on.  I would turn it off if we
could figure out how to back up the edb files and could flush the log
files.
