Yes, that was BUY.COM's "Price Mismatch of the Day" yesterday... $100
off yesterday if I remember.

If DR involves only E2K then an external USB drive could work. If the
whole OS needs to be reloaded, then things like a restore from a floppy
and restore media would be difficult because the floppy would not likely
have a USB 2.0 driver. Conversely, it would likely have a tape drive
driver. So, in that case you would need to do a complete OS restore
first (presumably to a typically non-OS drive), then a DR restore to the
correct location. Then delete the temp-loaded OS. Doable, but a hassle
and a lot longer... Things that are doable but a hassle are the reason I
got to this place to begin with :)

I architect systems for big companies and deal with all their
headaches... I want home to be as hassle-free as possible.

Hmmm, $264 today, I'll have to watch closer...what part of the DR
routine do you think would be made more complex?

Yeah, BUY.COM had this 80GB external USB2 drive on sale yesterday for
$169. I considered several of those as well.

The DR routine would be a bit more complex if there was a complete
melt-down however... So I decided against it for now and decided to
continue to look at the tape drives.

Good idea. I expect to do these in the middle of the night, but that's
still important if you're doing 30 or 40 gb. I'll go out & see if there
are any reviews out there.

Check the speed of the unit (throughput in actual use, not the speed
of the HDD, or the IDE interface, or the USB2 interface) before you make
a purchase. Some of those things (the no-name stuff, generally) are
much slower than one might expect.
