  FWIW, "good" ATA RAID controllers use a dedicated IDE channel and
controller per drive, and present the logical volumes as SCSI devices,
eliminating most of the brain damages that IDE has.  That being said...

  Total agreement.  Hardware's cheap compared to software licenses,
performance problems, and downtime.
