You will find that usually the flaming is directed toward those who repeatedly ask stupid (i.e., easily researched) questions even though they have been warned, and those who become argumentative or abusive themselves, even when they are wrong.
I believe that flamee in the most recent long thread was guilty of both. Of course, after one of those flame wars, a few come in and decry the situation, which really doesn't help either because they end up getting flamed as well some of the time.
