I can tell you what I know about Compaq. They do tosses with the resellers,
so no matter what pricing you get, ordering from a vendor is still better,
because they can compete on a margin comparable to cdw and then some. When
I say toss, I mean "dealer kickback" off of the sell. That helps the
resellers margin. Honestly, I'd find a local Compaq vendor and see what
price they give you. They should come out and give you onsite service with
what you're looking at, (on the hardware), plus the price is gonna be the
same or better.
I don't know, maybe they don't have local Compaq vendors way up there in
Alaska!!!

We have a corp. account with both. I do not know if that period of time was
a fluke but it was very strange. Before me we had only consultants and they
purchased everything from Compaq in pieces then charged for time putting it
together. We are weaning ourselves away from everything Compaq. Prices are
to high and support and very restrictive.

I was told by a CDW rep that they actually have a contract with Compaq that
states they can't undersell CDW. I'm assuming this only applies to purchases
made under a corporate account.

I almost purchased a new Compaq server a few months ago. Went to cdw,
pcconnections, and necx. Then I went to the Compaq site and could have
actually paid $30 less and it came to me complete. No need to put in cdrom/
extra memory etc. I ended up getting a Dell for $1100 less for same
config.
