Also be aware of the danger that said ports may infected with a known virus.
In the event of this, query the system for possible source of infection.
Unfortunately 99% of the queries fail. Assuming the query fails, return
system to manufacturer, express your disgust with the infected system, and
advise them that you will be seeking out alternative systems for immediate
replacement.

If however, the source of infection is located. Damage the source systems
interface so severely that remaining systems will not be subject to it's
irreversible infections, and follow the remaining steps above.

It has been my experience that most admins frown on backdoor access to their
systems. If you aren't having any luck with the standard port, I'd check
for access to an available alternate port. Start by doing a reverse lookup.

I would imagine routing through foreign systems is not bad. You just need
to get past the firewall or ensure that the proper ports allow you to pass
through or accept your connection. Also, you need to ensure that proper
virus-protection mechanisms are loaded. If you have to find a backdoor into

the system, that could get messy. It would best be avoided.
