Aren't these the protocols used?

TAP - Telocator Alphanumeric Input Protocol

TAP was formerly known as the Motorola Page Entry (PET) as well as the
IXO alphanumeric entry protocol until it was adopted by Telocator in
September 1988 as an industry standard for the input of paging requests.
Telocator is known as the Personal Communications Industry Association -
PCIA, and the protocol is now referred to as the Telocator Alphanumeric
Protocol (TAP).

UCP - Universal Computer Protocol

UCP is part of the ERMES-recommendation. ERMES is a paging system
specified by the European Telecommunications Standard Institute (ETSI)
to cover the European need for paging services from the beginning of the
90's. ERMES is supported by the EC which has sent a directive to all
member countries about allocating necessary radio spectrum for the
system, and a recommended time schedule for realization of the system.

That's via SMTP, right? Would servers alive be able to call you to tell
you Exchange is down?

They don't get sent at all currently. It will be configured to dial out
using a shiva box. As far as the protocol, I haven't been able to
determine from AT&T whether to use TAP or UCP. Hell, I can't even get
the local SMSC number from them, but that's a story in itself.

Do the SMS messages get sent SMTP from Exchange?

Ok I know this has nothing to do with Exchange. However, I do plan on
using this phone for receiving SMS messages sent by Servers Alive.

Anyway, my current Nokia 8260 has been giving me problems, so AT&T has
sent me another one. Of course they only sent me the shell, and I have
to use my existing battery. I have close to 200 phone numbers on my
current phone and would rather not transfer them manually. I've heard
that there's a cable you can purchase to sync two identical phones but
have been able to find one near me. Anyone have any ideas where I could
find such a life saving device?

Regards,
