Title: SMTP mail to exchange help

I assume you've gone over all of your dns server records, but I'd check them 1 more time.I'd make sure that both machines have same dns, in order, and it could be that the machines are pulling FQDN because they have scottsdalechamber.com in their dns properties.Unless they have actual DNS records on a dns server, which you didn't really say.

I assume you can ping the servers?Just for a temporary fix, you could enter in the internal ip of the mail server to forward mail to, and make sure under your relay settings you trust mail sent from that ip.

Hope this helps.I'm still a little confused about your setup.

More info.

I'm also using WINS.  When I'm on the exchange server, SCC, if I ping scc I get scc.scottsdalechamber.com and the ip address.  If I ping Sharla, I get Sharla and the IP address, not the FQDN.

If I'm on Sharla, I get the FQDN. Guess I never noticed if this is normal.

Primary/secondary DNS is handled out of the building by the ISP.  I've got an internal DNS that's in the third position.  There's not much in it - it's set to use Wins Lookup in the Scottsdalechamber zone.  Sharla is in it as just sharla.

My sql product utilizes the IIS SMTP service to allow e-mail.  II4, nt4, sp6a.  The exchange server is 5.5, sp3, nt5 sp5.

A couple months ago I changed our ip addresses when we changed ISPs. Frankly the e-mail capability wasn't utilized very much, so no one noticed it wasn't working.

I think the exchange server is supposed to allow relaying from this server. Maybe I haven't configured it correctly?

Here's what the .rtr file shows:
Connection to [nn.nnn.nnn.2] with Ip Address nn.nnn.nnn.2 failed from sharla.scottsdalechamber.com-nn.nnn.nnn.6
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Server received Winsock error Connection timed out.

The .2 ip address is the exchange server. The .6 ip address is the sql server which is also running IIS/smtp.
