Seems
like lots of uses. I think the Mayo Hospital is using RFID id tags on
patients so they don't "lose them".

The
technology behind it is very basic, the antenna energizes the tag which
broadcasts out it's data back to the antenna. The data is formatted
similarly to a PDF 417 bar code if your familiar with 2-D symbologies. The
tags will carry up to 1 or 2 K of data and are read-write. The Maine
Turnpike uses similar technology to manage toll accounts. You can buy toll
access at a discounted rate ($50 worth of travel for $40) and the RFID device
decrements whenever you enter the highway. An LCD warns you when you're
low on cash. Commercial accounts carry no cash, the transactions build up
on the host and you get a monthly bill for travel. Like my snow blower,
when it's working, it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday to emailvery cool. We were toying with membership ID's to simplify checkin at events. Eventually membership discounts could be implemented between members.I've heard of pilot programs started in some cities where the Mobil Speedpasses can be used to buy food at McDonalds.-----Original Message-----

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday to emailNothing yet, the AIAG has a program where they embed them in tires so when a car rolls off the line it passes in front of the reader which captures the VIN and the serial numbers of the tires. Then, when there's a recall, they can easily figure out where the bad tires went. We're considering doing the same thing in our transmissions and other key components we produce. No concrete plan yet, just a lot of ideas.mit freundlichen Grüßen / best regards
