I am a fully signed up member of the CA bashing bandwagon and for the same reason as William, I have to use their products every day. The ArcserveIT Exchange agent at our HQ has never ever given me a clean backup in a year, there is always an error message or some small glitch. I do restore fairly regularly so it does work (although it's very tricky to restore as well) but it's so inconsistent.
There is a Service Pack 2 for ArcserveIT 6.61 which I assume you are using? You can get it from the CA site or I can mail it to you (11MB zip file), you have to run it on both the backup server and the server with the agent on it.
